The Air Defence Troops of the Land Forces should not be confused with Air Defence Troops of the Air Force and those of the Airborne Troops.

The unit’s tasks include combat duty on air defence, covering troops and facilities from enemy air attacks during combat actions, regroupings, marches and being on-site.

The Air Defence Troops use a wide range of modern weapons. Among them are S-300V and BUK M missile systems, Krug, Kub and Tor SAM systems, Tunguska SPAAG. Sosna and Osa surface-to-air missile systems are also being used.

The troops are capable of combatting air attacks through a different range of heights, from 200 metres to the stratosphere (more than 12000 metres).
