China expressed understanding of Russia’s analysis on the causes of the crisis in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

The ministry commented on the results of Monday’s consultations between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and Chinese counterpart Cheng Guoping.

“The consultations focused on the development of the parties’ relations with the CIS. The events in Ukraine prioritised,” the ministry said.

“China expressed understanding of Russia’s analysis on the causes of the deep internal crisis in Ukraine and its role played by external forces who backed EuroMaidan and wrecked the implementation of the February 21 agreement,” the ministry said.

“Grigory Karasin and Cheng Guoping stressed the need to continue the search for ways to settle the situation in Ukraine with the involvement of political forces and based on the interests of its regions,” the ministry said, adding “The diplomats of both countries agreed to continue the exchange of information on further development of events in Ukraine.
